Maximilian Büsser’s Horological Machines have captured the fancies of design buffs and watch enthusiasts alike, since debuting to the world in 2005. Büsser’s sense of irreverent and inspired design produces wearable machines that make you do a double take, whether you love it or hate it.

If you belong in the former category, you’d be as excited as we are about the idea behind the new MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva, on Rue Verdaine. It not only showcases the complete range of MB&F’s Horological Machines and new Legacy Machine No.1, but reels you in further with a carefully curated collection of what MB&F would like to call ‘Mechanical Art Devices’, from around the world.

Be led by your curiousity through pieces such as the ‘Machine Lights’ from Berlin-based Frank Buchwald; hand-blown hourglasses by Marc Newson; kinetic creations by artist-engineer team, Laikingland; and a sleek toy car by Slovenian designer, Nika Zupanc, which should appeal to your inner child. The collection will evolve with plans for new arrivals throughout the year.

Incidentally, the theme of childhood maintains a constant presence in Büsser’s design psyche. In an interview with Asia Tatler last year, he shared with us the impact that his childhood memories still have on his designs today, evident in pieces like 2011’s HM4 Only Watch, which featured a panda flying a double-engine plane.

“Many more things have an impact on us when we’re children than when we’re adults, when we become reasonable and blasé. While we’re kids everything is incredible,” he mused.

Hence, we like to imagine that MB&F M.A.D. Gallery is Büsser’s way of creating a captivating wonderland for grown-ups, so the next time we find ourselves in that part of the world, we can relive the feeling of being a kid in a candy store again.
