Cool Kids Project with Lane Crawford

a for apple opening ceremony

I just got back from Tokyo and did a round of research and was kept busy in meetings. I came across the most interesting offerings for children, including Playtime Tokyo (a kidswear show), Glamorous Sugar (Mina’s store which has some great labels, including mine of course!), Abi Loves (blogger who writes from the perspective of a mommy) and Opening Ceremony Tokyo (fashion brand).

Speaking of Opening Ceremony, I just launched my second collaborative collection with them - what do you think?

The picture above is my favorite item from the collection, the Bianca Pointed Collar Dress

Speaking of collaborations, Opening Ceremony and my brand A for Apple also collaborated with Cool Kids, Lane Crawford’s first pop up kidswear store, to produce a mini collaboration.

I’m always asked how collaboration works. Well, there are no rules. At the end of the day, it’s about creative minds working together and the freedom to do whatever you want.

I remember the first time I met Humberto, we just showed up at the office with samples and a mannequin. We ended up being in the room for an hour just bouncing ideas back and forth. It was interesting and intense at the same time. I mean Opening Ceremony is working on hundreds of collaborations everyday, so one can only imagine the amount of creative juices being squeezed in that office.

Since then, it has been a continuous collaboration. I must say compare to that before, everything is definitely running more smoothly: we’re putting together the collection, sourcing, delivering with more fluidity, but and of course, we’re still rushing to meet deadlines – some things will never change.

Biography

Denise Ho is a fashion stylist based in Hong Kong with 10 years experience overseas in New York and London. Her passion for the industry crystallised after she graduated as a fashion design student from the Rhode Island School of Design. Wanting to get hands-on experience in fashion design, she spent three years in New York as a design assistant. She then moved to London and quickly developed her styling experience, working with established industry names such as Sarah Richardson and Lisa Marie Fernandez, and shooting for magazines such as I.D, Jalouse and Amica. Three years on, she came home to Hong Kong, and for the past seven years, she has styled for magazines including Vanity Fair (Italy) and Modern Weekly (China). Her current campaigns include brands such as Shanghai Tang, Adidas and DC Shoes.
Recently, Ho decided to go back to designing and started her own kidswear label, A for Apple. The label is designed for fashion forward kids ranging from newborns to six-years-old and is made of the highest quality eco-friendly materials.
Thirteen years working in various parts of the industry has taught her that fashion isn’t as glamorous as many people think. What she is interested in is the weird and wonderful things going on right now, in the different corners of the world of fashion.
