Maca, The Energy Booster

I was introduced to Maca by my husband a few years ago but because my taste buds rejected it, I decided not to take it regularly. Somehow my taste buds rejected it. I knew it was good for me. Recently, Maca has reappeared in my life, so I decided to give it another go, but before doing so I decided to research it.

The root Maca is from Peru and has been consumed by the people from the highlands of Peru for decades. According to World Botanicals, “it grows at an altitude of between 13,000 and 14,500 feet above sea level in the high Andean plateaus of Peru, a cold, oxygen-poor environment with high winds and harsh sunlight. No other food plant exists in the world that will grow at such a high altitude.” And at this altitude, the soil has a high level of vitamins and minerals in it.

According to Natural News, “Maca is a nutritionally dense super-food that contains high amounts of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and all of the essential amino acids. Maca root is rich in B-vitamins, which are the energy vitamins, and is a vegetarian source for B-12. Maca has high levels of bioavailable calcium and magnesium and is great for remineralisation.”

As well as the observations I’ve made in the above, one other point that caught my attention is the fact that the Maca root helps to rebalance hormones. It is also known to stimulate the hypothalamus and pituitary glands that are the master glands of the body. These glands actually regulate the other glands, so when in balance they can bring balance to the adrenal, thyroid, pancreas, ovarian and testicular glands.

This caught my attention because hormones are responsible for so many things in our body. Hormones have such a great function and role relating to several diseases, such in the case of cancer.

During a woman’s menstrual cycle the benefits of this root is nothing short of amazing. When I take it, my energy levels are high and I can feel the results right away.

So if I forget about the taste and if I focus on the benefits, I would say that this is one of the best things from Mother Nature. If I add my half a teaspoon a day into my juice or tea, I’m making a significant difference to my body.

Most health stores will sell Maca in powder form. So try it out and see for yourself.
