Benefits of Coconuts: Coconut Water
11.Nov.2011
Coconut water was drunk religiously after yoga practice while I was in India because it contains electrolytes. Electrolytes help the body to rehydrate and replenish. Just like water, coconut water is pure liquid and has been known to help neutralise the body. So after a two hour ashtanga yoga practice, with the help of coconut water, my aching muscles immediately feels better each time. After drinking coconut water, my body feels hydrated; my muscles relaxed; and my body replenishes all the sweat that had been released from this intense asana (postural) practice.
Coconuts are picked when they are unripe as this is when you will find them filled with water. It is wonderful for us because the water is similar to human plasma. It has even been used as an intravenous fluid in some parts of the world by doctors.

In coconut water, you will find vitamins C and B. Even though it is sweet, it contains minimal sugar, so it really is a marvelous super food. I noticed that when I drank it everyday my complexion was brighter and my skin was noticeably smooth and clear - almost glowing in fact. According to nutritionandyou.com, coconut water is a wonderful way to help your body remain young and vibrant.
Coconut water is also known to help boost our immune system and help with blood circulation. As a result, it is great to take this when you are unwell, as it is known to fight viruses. In the summer it has a wonderful cooling effect on our body. So rather than grabbing a fizzy drink on the next hot day, grab a coconut. They even sell them in the supermarkets now and are very readily available in Asia.
Nutirtionandyou.com goes one step further in their discovery for the benefits of coconut water saying that by “drinking pure coconut water on a regular basis, [it] will help reduce wrinkles and sagging skin, giving strength and elasticity to the skin”. This is because of the cytokinins which is found in coconut water. I’m walking proof of this as I saw the results myself!
