What do single malt whisky and crystal have in common? Water. Essential in creating single malt whisky and developing beautiful crystals, renowned distillery The Macallan and crystal-maker Lalique have partnered up for a unique fundraising campaign for the benefit of charity:water, a non-profit organisation that seeks to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
The Lalique Cire Perdue Decanter, which contains Macallan's 64-year-old single malt scotch whisky - its oldest and rarest ever - is slated to be auctioned off in New York at the end of the year, and has been on an international roadshow since April (having stopped at Paris, Madrid, London, Moscow, and more), introducing a global audience to this rare and one-of-a-kind creation by both companies.
The international roadshow is accompanied by fundraisers in each the cities, where a 10cl dram of the 64-year-old whisky is also brought forward to create exceptional generosities for charity:water. The Hong Kong leg, the first stop of this unique decanter in Asia, which took place on July 16th at the British Consulate, was able to raise a stellar HK$135,000.
